Pelvic floor physiotherapy

Pelvic floor or urogynecological physiotherapy is a branch of physiotherapy that aims to assess, treat, improve and prevent alterations that may occur in the pelvic floor. Among the most important alterations we find:

  1. Urinary incontinence: Involuntary loss of urine, which can be due to effort, urgency or mixed.
  2. Genital prolapse: Descent or prolapse of pelvic organs such as the bladder, uterus or rectum, which can cause a feeling of heaviness or discomfort.
  3. Chronic pelvic pain: Persistent pain in the pelvic region, which may include conditions such as interstitial cystitis or vulvodynia.
  4. Pelvic floor dysfunction: Problems with the strength, coordination, or function of the pelvic floor muscles.
  5. Sexual dysfunction: Problems such as pain during intercourse (dyspareunia) or difficulties with sexual arousal.
  6. Functional constipation: Difficulty defecating due to weakness of the pelvic floor muscles or pelvic diaphragm.
  7. Lumbar pain related to the pelvic floor: Pain in the lower back associated with changes in the function of the pelvic floor.
  8. Postpartum Recovery: Rehabilitation of the pelvic floor and other structures after childbirth, including managing the impact of pregnancy on the body.

These conditions can be effectively addressed through specialized physiotherapy techniques that help restore function and comfort in affected individuals.
